Microsoft-owned social network for professionals LinkedIn has crossed the 50-million user mark in India, according to media reports.

The company has reportedly doubled its user base in the country in the past four years.
India is LinkedIn's largest market outside the US. Globally, the professional networking platform has over 500 million members.

“Our members-first, localised approach has helped us cross the 50 million mark in India. We are at the beginning of an exciting journey, as we democratise opportunity for every member of the Indian workforce," media reports quoted Akshay Kothari, country manager, India, and head, international product, LinkedIn, as saying.

LinkedIn has been making inroads into the Indian market with products catering to specific users. For example, in 2016, it launched the LinkedIn Lite website for users in areas where internet connectivity was slow. For android users, the company created an app version of LinkedIn Lite.
