MIB gives OTT players 100 days to finalise Code of Conduct
Reports say that Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Information & Broadcasting, met the head honchos of almost every top OTT platform, asking them to set up an adjudicatory body
The Prakash Javadekar-led Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has asked the Over-The-Top content players to set up an adjudicatory body and finalise a code of conduct in the next 100 days.
The OTT players are now under pressure to ensure some form of censorship for their content.
Media reports suggest that Javadekar met almost every top OTT platform in Delhi for the same. The Minister reportedly cited the example of streaming players in China who have all abided by the government’s set of conditions.
The 45-minute meeting saw representatives of Netflix, Amazon Prime, ZEE5, MX Player, ALTBalaji, Hotstar, Voot, Jio, SonyLIV and Arre. in attendance. Four OTT platforms didn’t want to comply with DCCC, an adjudicatory body by the IAMA.
While Amazon Prime has expressed its displeasure at the idea, the others -- Netflix, MX Player and ALTBalaji – have asked for some more time to think it over.
Javadekar had met the OTT platforms in October, seeking suggests for them to come up with mutually-agreeable terms.
