Netflix gets NCPCR notice over alleged accessibility of explicit content to minors
Monika Shergill, Vice President -Content and Policy Head, asked to appear before NCPCR on July 29
Netflix India’s Vice President -Content and Policy Head Monika Shergill has been asked to appear before the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) on July 29. The summon has been issued by the NCPCR after it received a complaint about the streaming giant’s explicit content being accessible to minors.
The NCPCR, in the order sent to Netflix, has said that the commission had received a complaint from Uday Mahurkar of the Save Culture Bharat Foundation.
The summon order reads, “Netflix is showcasing bizarre scenes and this content is easily accessible to minors on Netflix. It has been observed that the unrestricted accessibility of explicit content on Netflix to minors constitutes a violation of section 11 of the protection of children from sexual offenses.”
The commission issued a letter dated June 20, 2024, to take necessary action on the complaint received. Netflix was given 10-day time to provide the commission with an action taken report in the matter, but the report is still awaited.
e4m has reached out to Netflix for its comment on the matter, but is yet to get a response.
