The New York Times has sued OpenAI and Microsoft for allegedly using the newspaper's articles without their permission for training AI technologies, media networks have reported.

According to a report, the complaint said: "Defendants seek to free-ride on The Times’s massive investment in its journalism by using it to build substitutive products without permission or payment."

Although NYT is not asking for anything specific in damages, the media house has said that OpenAI and Microsoft are responsible for damages amounting to "billions of dollars" due to the "illegal copying".
