Iconic instant messaging application Yahoo Messenger is all set to shut down on July 17.

According to media reports, the users will be migrated to Yahoo's new messaging app, Squirrel. They will be given six months to download their chat history, after which the server will be unavailable to public.

One of the first messaging apps, Yahoo messenger was introduced in 1998 and was quite popular in the later years. However, in the recent past, it had been facing tough competition from other popular apps such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger.
