The Hindu recently organised a two-day exhibition of rare photographs from its archives that feature several scenes from India’s history over the years at the All India Arts and Crafts in New Delhi.

Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit inaugurated the exhibition that features high-resolution black and white pictures of stalwarts of India’s freedom movement such as Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, among many others.

Praveen Swami, Resident Editor, The Hindu, remarked that newspapers have marched ahead in technology, which has enabled them to take great care in preserving their archives.

The exhibition featured several historically significant photos such as India’s first President Rajendra Prasad on the eve of his first address to the Parliament, where he is seen with his Cabinet colleagues. Another photo is that of Mahatma Gandhi with Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

The Delhi Chief Minister suggested that The Hindu publish a pictorial book when India celebrates her 70th Independence Day to share India’s legacy with its citizens for posterity.
