How brands celebrated 25 years of F.R.I.E.N.D.S
Brands such as Google, McDonald's India, Fevikwik, BBlunts and Pepe Jeans used quirky campaigns to engage with the audience
To mark the 25th anniversary of FRIENDS, several brands connected over the iconic American sitcom with their quirky marketing campaigns which are breaking the Internet. Google, McDonald's India, Fevikwik, BBlunts, Pepe Jeans were a few brands who engaged with the audience and took them down the memory lane.
Tech giant Google paid tribute to the TV show with 'Easter eggs' for each FRIENDS character. Just Google a favourite character’s full name or the first name followed by “Friends.” For example, "Joey Tribbiani" and a pizza icon will appear under the Knowledge Panel (located beneath the picture) on the right side of the screen. Click on the pizza to see an animation, followed by one of Joey's most memorable (and relatable) lines.
Google has also curated a special glossary dedicated to words and phrases used in the sitcom. By typing 'Friends glossary' one can see definitions of words like ‘moo point’, ‘noodle soup’, ‘woopah', and ‘on a break’.
This significant pioneer of culture has a lot of classic references that were picked up by brands to participate in the silver jubilee celebrations. McDonald's, Fevikwik, BBlunts, Pepe jeans, MotherDairy, SBI Life Insurance, Croma, Dunkin Donuts took to their social media pages to get in on the celebratory action with a little trick that will please any fan.
McDonalds India shared a post which read F.R.I.E.S and the caption read they’ll be there for you. Similarly, BBlunt in a quirky post said, “You know we’re here for you when the rain starts to pour,” pointing out Monica’s (one of the lead character of the sitcom’s) hair during humidity.
