News agency Asian News International (ANI) has reportedly moved High Court against rival Press Trust of India (PTI) over copyright infringement and plagiarism. Justice Mini Pushkarna has asked PTI to file its response to the case and has reportedly listed it for August 9 for further hearing.
ANI has alleged that PTI copied its videos of passengers on the Delhi-Darbhanga Spicejet flight from June 19. The videos were shot by ANI’s video journalist, claimed the plaintiff, and were published on their social media. Soon after, PTI published identical videos as well.
ANI has reportedly sought Rs 2 crore in damages and permanent injunction, restraining PTI from publishing any of its other original works.
PTI’s counsel Rajshekhar Rao reportedly said that the platform will take down the said videos in 24 hours.
ANI’s counsel Senior Advocate Chander M Lall and advocate Sidhant Kumar also sought an apology and demanded that PTI clarify to the news publications that credited the contentious material to PTI.
"They must take down and acknowledge that it is my work. They must apologise. They must write to all the newspapers who published the report as PTI feed. PTI has been stealing my feeds," said ANI lawyers.
Rao argued that there is no need for an apology since PTI attributed the videos to a “third party.”
The court has since issued a summons to PTI to talk on the issue, reports said.
