The IRS Q2 2010 results have brought some cheer to the publications in the Karnataka market. Six of the Top 10 dailies and four of the top five magazines have seen positive growth in their Average Issue Readership (AIR) in this quarter.
Among the Top 10 dailies, Vijay Karnataka (All Edn) leads with an AIR of 3,268,000 in IRS Q2 2010, as against 3,322,000 in the previous quarter, a dip of 1.6 per cent. Prajavani (All Edn) is placed second with an AIR of 2,565,000, up 14.4 per cent from 2,241,000 in Q1. Samyukta Karnataka (All Edn) has seen a whopping 21.1 per cent growth in its AIR from 812,000 in Q1 to 984,000 in this quarter. Kannada Prabha (All Edn) follows at No. 5 with an AIR of 862,000, a gain of 15 per cent.
However, Udayavani (All Edn) has seen a decline of 3.1 per cent in its AIR. English daily The Times of India (All Edn) is at No. 6 and has seen a marginal dip of 0.4 per cent. Another English daily in the Top 10 list is Deccan Herald (All Edn), which has seen a rise of 2.2 per cent in its AIR from 307,000 in Q1 to 314,000 in this quarter. Placed eighth is Marathi daily Tarun Bharat (Belgaum, Maharashtra & Goa), which has seen the maximum growth among the Top 10 dailies in Karnataka at 24 per cent. Its AIR stands at 227,000 in Q2.
Kannada daily Sanjavani is at No. 9, registering a 14 per cent growth in AIR, which stands at 211,000. Daily Thanthi (All Edn) at No. 10 has seen the steepest fall in AIR among the Top 10 dailies. At 85,000 in Q2, Tamil daily’s AIR has dropped 22 per cent vis-à-vis Q2 figures.
Among the top five magazines in the Karnataka market, just one has seen a decline in AIR. Sudha leads the pack with an AIR of 350,000 in Q2, as against 316,000 in Q1, a rise of 10.7 per cent. Placed second is Grih Sobha (Kan), which has seen an increase of 4.5 per cent in its AIR, which stands at 208,000. Roopatara is the sole magazine among the top five to have seen a decline in growth. The magazine’s AIR in Q2 stands at 207,000, down 5.04 per cent from the 218,000 AIR in Q1. Taranga is at No. 4 and has seen the maximum rise of 17.1 per cent. Its AIR for Q2 stands at 157,000, as compared to 134,000 in the previous quarter. Mangala is placed fifth with an AIR of 155,000, a growth of 4.7 per cent.
