McDonald's reverts to old logo after ‘social distancing’ redesign

The fast-food chain's Brazilian ad around the COVID-19 crisis was inexplicably pulled down after criticism from some Twitter users

Global fast-food chain McDonald’s had joined the ranks of many brands such as Volkswagen, Audi and Nike, who used their logos to make a strong point about social distancing. The famed Golden Arches were placed far apart as a temporary logo redesign to signify social distancing.

As part of the new campaign, McDonald’s Brazil featured an animated clip showing the arches separating. But soon afterwards, McDonald’s invited some strong criticism from netizens, including presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders.

Twitter users accused the fast-food chain of hypocrisy and opportunistic advertising. While some like Sanders demanded that the restaurant chain give paid sick leaves to their employees, others commented on their service. Some also shamed the company for turning the pandemic into “an award brief.”
