The Press Lions and Radio Lions have brought more cheer for Indian agencies. There are 33 Indian entries that have made it to the Press Lions, with Leo Burnett having the highest with eight shortlisted entries; O&M and Cheil have five each; JWT India has four; McCann Erickson and Saatchi & Saatchi, three each; and Grey, Contract and Mudra, one each. There are five Indian entries shortlisted for the Radio Lions: three from TBWA\India and two from Mudra.

It is a good beginning for India. The shortlists of the Cannes Media Lions and Outdoor Lions have been announced on the second day of the Festival. There are 23 Indian entries that have made it to the Outdoor Lions shortlist. And in Media Lions, nine Indian entries have been shortlisted.

The Delhi High Court ordered in favour of ESPN-STAR Sports in its suit for permanent injunction filed against cable operators across the country against unauthorised broadcast of the ongoing UEFA Euro 2008 and the forthcoming Asia Cup 2008, starting later this month, restraining all cable operators from unauthorisedly showing the two tournaments through their cable networks.

However, when contacted, Jha declined to comment on either his resignation or his new assignment. While he will be with the ABP Group till the end of June, it is learnt that he is joining NIIT in Delhi to head one of their new ventures.

Oriya daily Pragativadi has filed a legal suit against the Media Research Users Council (MRUC) for reflecting incorrect circulation figures. As per the ABC figures for the period July-December 2007, the total circulation of Pragativadi stood at 182,089. In contrast to the total readership figures, the MRUC has shown less readership of Pragativadi at just 0.72 lakh.

The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival 2008 began on June 15, and it is bigger than the previous years – at least in terms of the Indian delegates that have travelled all the way to the South of France to attend the Festival this year. From the 130 last year, the number of Indian delegates this year has gone up to 225-plus. Quite a few Indian delegates were seen on the first day of the Festival.

The first day of the 55th Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival saw a host of speakers deliberate on the new avenues that are making their way in the media landscape. The topics varied from contextual video advertising to more on the web and to what it means to be a media communications company. While clearly newer mediums are coming up, all speakers reasserted the need for knowing the consumers and focus on relevance.

The shortlists for Promo Lions and Lions Direct were announced on June 15 at the 55th Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. Three Indian entries have been shortlisted in the Promo Lions, while nine Indian entries have been shortlisted in Lions Direct. The winners would be awarded on June 16, 2008.
