Search engine giant Google is considering investment in Vodafone Idea, according to media reports. The move is predicted to pit Google against Facebook contesting for the Indian mobile market, which is the fastest-growing in the world.
Reports suggest that the search engine giant was planning to acquire a 5% stake in Vodafone Idea, which is a partnership between the UK-based telecom company and the Aditya Birla Group.
The move is the latest among global tech giants, including Facebook, who have been eyeing the booming Indian telecom market. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio has recently secured Rs 78,562 crore from leading global tech investors in the last month.
Media reports also say that Microsoft is currently negotiating an investment of $2 billion for 2.5% stake in Jio.
