More than 50% of the world’s population has access to the internet, and 53% of the world’s internet users are located in the Asia-Pacific region, according to Mary Meeker’s 2019 Internet Trends report. India is the second largest internet user in the world, after China.

At 3.8 billion, the number of Internet users comprises 51% of the world population. In 2017, there were 3.6 billion people, or 49% of the population, online. However, while the number of internet users increased globally by 6%, the growth has slowed down.

India has the second largest internet user base at 12%, while China leads with 21% internet users globally. The United States is third with 8% internet users globally.

The report by, Mary Meeker, General Partner at venture capital firm Bond Capital, takes a look at important internet trends from last year.

The report further says that the global smartphone shipments fell by 4% in 2018, compared to 0% the prior year, highlighting the fact that when markets reach mainstream, new growth is harder to find.

According to the report, in USA, mobile advertising now accounts for 33% of advertisers’ spends as compared to 0.5% in 2010. Also, the time spent on mobile by users has grown to 33% compared to 8% in 2010. This has led to a decline in the ad spending on print, TV, and radio.

Talking about the revenue of leading US-based advertising platforms, the report states that Google and Facebook still lead, but others are gaining share.
