Yahoo announced today that they are rolling out a new version of Yahoo Mail in the coming weeks to completely change the way the service handles conversations, make it easier to share conversations and provide better mobile access through its partnership with Nokia.

New features will include a connect with Facebook and other social services like Yahoo Groups, so that people can take part in those networks without having to leave their inboxes. Twitter updates, and game updates from Zynga will also happen in the same way.

Yahoo also plans to bring IMs SMS and Emails into the same inbox, and allow Facebook chat from within Yahoo itself, along with the addition of apps which people can add to their inboxes directly – such as Unsubscriber, which makes it easy to get removed from newsletters and a YouSendIt app to make sharing large files easier.

Perhaps most important to Indian readers, Yahoo is also claiming the speeds have doubled from the previous version, which is very important particularly in regions where only basic internet speeds are offered.

“Yahoo!’s vision for online communications brings together all the tools that people use to connect — email, chat, SMS, and social updates — and makes it easier for them to share content and engage in conversations with the people that matter most to them,” said Blake Irving, chief product officer, Yahoo!. “We’re delivering on this strategy with the latest version of Yahoo! Mail, providing our hundreds of millions of users worldwide with a fun, engaging and constantly connected experience across desktop, mobile and tablet devices that keeps the conversation going – anytime, anywhere.”
