The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may consider shifting the Indian Premier League (IPL) to a September–October window due to concerns over extreme summer heat and player fatigue, according to IPL chairman Arun Dhumal.

The IPL has traditionally been held between March and May since its inception. However, with the Governing Council planning to expand the number of matches from 2028 onwards, discussions have emerged around whether a revised calendar window may be more suitable for the tournament.

Dhumal said there is currently no immediate requirement to change the existing schedule. However, he noted that any potential decision would need to be taken in consultation with the league’s broadcast partners.

He added that one of the key proposals under consideration is a shift to a September–October window, which would also align with the festive advertising period leading up to Diwali.
