Row over IPL Awards: Gaurav Garg serves legal notice to Lalit Modi and Cineyug

There seems to be no end to Lalit Modi’s problems. In another turn of events, Gaurav Garg, President, Strategic Consulting, Propaganda Media & Marketing, has served a legal notice to Lalit Modi and Morani brothers of Cineyug for breach of proprietary rights and monetary compensation.

IPL Awards is said to be a Rs 800 crore revenue resource for BCCI, which, Garg said, had been conceptualised and presented by him to the IPL committee. Garg is said to have worked with Cineyug under the banner of ‘Cineyug Signature’ for 27 projects for approximately a year. Apparently, Percept Holdings has joined Propaganda Media and Marketing to sue IPL and BCCI for breach of contract with them on ‘Awards & Ratings’, signed in 2006.

Garg is said to have created the concept right from scratch, but has not been given due credit for conceptualising the IPL Awards, and this apart, the IPL Awards has been declared exclusive to Cineyug Films and registered under the Indian Copyright Act 1957.

Garg has affirmed that he should be given due credit as conceptualiser and creative director of the IPL Awards, and that he would also be demanding a monetary compensation to tune to Rs 20 crore (overall) and Rs 87 lakh as direct overdues.
