Haldiram’s faces the heat, under FDA scanner in Maharashtra
The decision to check Haldiram’s products came after US FDA declared Haldiram’s products unfit for sale in America, stating they contained high levels of pesticides, mold and bacteria
Maharashtra government has asked the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to check the samples of Haldiram packaged foods to see if they are safe for human consumption. There has been buzz going around on social media with speculations on whether Haldiram’s is next in the line to face the heat after Maggi, which was recently banned in India.
Reportedly, Minister of State for FDA, Vidya Thakur had written a letter to the FDA Commissioner and asked for collection of Haldiram’s samples and their lab testing. The products are manufactured in the state and are consumed by people all over. The decision to check Haldiram’s products comes after US FDA declared Haldiram’s products such as cookies, wafers and biscuits as unfit for sale in America. According to reports, the FDA website declared Haldiram’s products exported from India as unsafe because they were found with high levels of pesticides, mold and bacteria.
