FreeDish auction ends: 64 slots sold in all, DD rakes in Rs 1,156 cr

Last year, the pubcaster had earned Rs 1073 crore from the e-auction of 65 MPEG-2 slots

Prasar Bharati has earned Rs 1,156 crore from the e-auction of 64 MPEG-2 slots on DD FreeDish. This is higher in comparison to last year’s Rs 1073 crore earned from 65 MPEG-2 slots

The DD Freedish slots are being allotted for a period of one year - from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.

On Monday, five channels bagged the slots for Rs 77.8 crore. While B4U Kadak secured the slot for Rs 16.3 crore, India Daily Live got the slot for Rs 16.45 crore, 9XM paid Rs 16.3 crore, B4U Bhojpuri Rs 15 crore and Fakht Marathi Rs 13.75 crore.

The auctions for the MPEG slots began on February 19.

In the auction, the top four Hindi GEC broadcasters - ZEEL, Disney Star, Viacom18, and SPNI - did not bid for the slots.

Dhamaal and Sun TV are the new entrants in the Free Dish space.
