Miditech, one of Asia’s leading independent production companies, which has been at the forefront of creating reality programming for Indian television, has come up with a talent hunt to select India’s first ‘Cricket Star’. The company has produced ‘Cricket Star’, which is spread over 11 weeks, and is scheduled to go on air in January 2007. The show will be simulcast on Zee TV, Zee Sports and DD National.

Commenting on the new project, Nikhil Alva, CEO, Miditech, said, “We are truly looking forward to ‘Cricket Star’, by far the largest talent hunt reality series ever witnessed by the Indian audience. This innovative and ground breaking format has been conceptualised keeping in mind India’s passion for cricket.”

As part of the talent hunt, 44 contestants would be shortlisted at the audition rounds, which began in Mumbai on December 16, followed by Kolkata, Hyderabad and Delhi. Kapil Dev and Ajay Jadeja will judge the talent hunt. The 44 selected at the auditions would be filtered down to 22 on December 29, who would be put through an intensive training camp in Mumbai.

The winner of the first series of ‘Cricket Star’ will win a year’s all-expenses paid contract with the prestigious Leicestershire County Cricket Club and attractive cash prizes. The final 11 participants will also have the opportunity to participate in the global rollout of ‘Cricket Star’, which is slated for a UK launch in the summer of 2007.
