Best ads of the week: Dailyhunt's cautionary election tale, Campa's new India
Impressive ads that stayed on our minds in Week 1 of May
In a time when attention spans are getting shorter by the minute, brands have to jump through hoops to hold on to viewers' attention. Yet, even during such challenging times, some ads tend to stay on our minds and make an impression on us through their creativity and strong messaging.
In the intervening week between April 29 and May 5, we got to see some impactful ads that delighted us, make us chuckle and even tugged at our heart strings. Last week, we put the spotlight on adverts by Mother Dairy, MakeMyTrip, Perk and Britannia. This time around, we have some interesting commercials from Poker Baazi, Navratna Tel, Daily Hunt and Campa.
Campa
Created by McCann Worldgroup India, Campa's new campaign stokes feelings of a refreshing brand of patriotism that looks forward to a new Indian rather than dwell on the glory of the country's past. Set to a rousing anthem by McCann's Prasoon Joshi, the film extols the idea of a "new India" brimming with youthful energy and a desire to succeed.
Dailyhunt
It's election season and voter apathy seems to be at an all-time high in India. To motivate people to cast their vote and be responsible citizens of the nation, news aggregator DailyHunt unveiled its election campaign, #EveryVoteCounts. The ad film narrates a short story--apparently based on a true incident--of how a single vote ended up costing a candidate his victory. The ad has been conceptualised by WYP, a Wondrlab company.
Hyundai Motor India
Hyundai Motor India's six-film campaign for its Exter brand is all centred on showcasing each of the car's features with a quirky ad. The ‘Dil mein Bas Jaye Exter' These films, characterized by a funny storyline, with a common central character ‘Surya’, embodies the spirit and features of the car in a memorable way.
Navratna Tel
Navratna Oil dialled up on comedy by joining hands with Kapil Sharma for its new campaign this summer. Conceptualised by Wondrlab, the series involves Kapil offering a solution in his signature style as Sumona Chakravarti, Kiku Sharda and Gaurav Gera deal with problems caused by everyday chaos. The ad tickled us with the crackling chemistry between the characters which we have all grown to love.
PokerBaazi
PokerBaazi's latest advert with Shahid Kapoor exemplifies the thought "Jo life mein khelta hai wo Poker bhi khel sakta hai." The ad explores how anyone with quick thinking, an eye for detail and a penchant for catching bluffs can excel at poker. Kapoor stars as a smart manager who outwits a lying employee with a clever trick up his sleeve. The campaign has been conceptualized in collaboration with creative agency Talented.
