The government’s spends on advertising on the internet have gone up four times from 2014-15 to 2018-19, media reports have said quoting data obtained under the Right to Information Act.

During Narendra Modi’s first term as the Prime Minister, Rs 5,726 crore was spent in the five years by the Centre for publicity purposes, reports have said. It has been also reported that Rs 367 crore was spent on advertising in the 100 days before the model code of conduct was enforced for the Lok Sabha elections in 2018.
According to the data reported, the spending on advertising on the internet jumped from Rs 6.64 crore to Rs 26.95 crore between 2014-15 and 2018-19.
