The International Advertising Association on April 8, 2008 announced the winners of its first annual worldwide Awards programme recognising the Socially Responsible Communications in TV, Print and Digital media. The Grand Prix was awarded to TBWA\Paris for its powerful film ‘Signatures’ for Amnesty International.

The 41st International Advertising Association (IAA) World Congress convened with newly-elected officers to the IAA Board of Directors. Alan Rutherford, CEO, Digitas Global was elected Senior Vice-President; Pheroza Bilimoria, Managing Director, Business India Publications, was elected Secretary; Sandy Kornberg, Advisory Board Member of Global Advertising Strategies was elected Treasurer. The elections follow the recent succession of Indra Abidin to IAA Chairman and World President from Senior Vice President.

Pradeep Guha, CEO, Zee Telefilms, has been appointed Area Director of the International Advertising Association (IAA) for the Asia Pacific region at the ongoing 41st IAA World Congress. This is an advisory role and an honorary position. Guha will be overseeing India, Pakistan, South East Asia, Japan and Australia.

Following a multi-agency pitch, BPCL has decided to empanel four agencies for its creative business – McCann Erickson, Saatchi & Saatchi, Euro RSCG and Lowe. Seven agencies had been invited for the creative pitch a month ago. The estimated account size is in the region of Rs 40-45 crore. An industry source has confirmed the development.

‘GQ’, the men’s magazine from Condé Nast Publications Inc, will hit Indian newsstands by the end of September 2008. Sanjiv Bhattacharya has been appointed Editor of GQ India. It is also known that ‘Glamour’, another magazine from Condé Nast’s stable, is also slated for launch in India.

Alpana Mishra is now COO, Production, while Vikas Bahl has been made COO of UTV Spotboy Motion Pictures. Ram Mirchandani will set up a separate film development and production arm funded by UTV Motion Pictures.

Ryan Menezes, Executive Creative Director, Vyas Giannetti Creative, has decided to move on after a 15-month stint with the agency. Though his next destination is not known, Menezes has told exchange4media that he wishes to remain in the advertising industry. Prior to VGC, he was with Mudra as National Creative Director.
