Star Wars actor Mark Hamill quits Facebook over untruthful political ads
In a tweet yesterday, the actor said the decision was about choosing 'patriotism over profits'
Mark Hamill, the actor famous for playing the iconic role of Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars films, has reportedly quit Facebook following the social media giant's refusal to require political ads to be honest.
The actor tweeted yesterday:
So disappointed that #MarkZuckerberg values profit more than truthfulness that I've decided to delete my @Facebook account. I know this is a big "Who Cares?" for the world at large, but I'll sleep better at night. #PatriotismOverProfits ??>? https://t.co/seb2eJMTo6

Hamill's tweet sparked numerous responses, with some praising the actor's decision, while others expressed that the actor deleting his Facebook account does not trigger change. Others further questioned whether it was Facebook's responsibility to even censor untrue political ads in the first place.
Facebook has come under fire after CEO Mark Zuckerberg refused to ban political ads on the platform after Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey announced a ban on political ads in October last year.
