Kerala gets its first private FM radio station with Radio Mango going on air
Last week, Kerala woke up to its first private FM radio station with Radio Mango launching in Kozhikode. This was the only station to begin its operations in the previous week across the country.
Radio Mango 91.9 FM has become Kerala’s first private FM radio station to go on air in Kozhikode. Following this launch, the station will soon be available in Thrissur, Kannur and Kochi. Radio Mango is an initiative of the Malayala Manorama Group.
The station calls its programming line-up “delicious, bright and full of fun, and are put together with an authentic flavour of Kerala, and laced with a cutting edge urban cool.”
“As promised, we are a completely listener-driven channel. We aim to be the most preferred station for listeners and thereby provide the fullest value for advertisers,” said Amit Mathew, Resident Editor and Senior GM, Radio Mango.
An official communiqué added, “Kerala’s small size and high population density provides what can only be called an intimate market for radio. The listener is highly involved, extremely discerning and his social network is vast and intertwined – making it one of the few markets where ‘first impressions’ can make or break a brand.”
