Bombay High Court will hear TRAI NTO 2.0 matter on 27th February
The Court has also asked TRAI whether the matter can be deferred by a month since the hearing will take time
The Bombay High Court will now hear the matter of TRAI NTO 2.0 on 27th February. The court reportedly also asked TRAI whether hearing on the matter on the implementation of TRAI 2.0 could be deferred by a month since hearing the matter will take time
Former Attorney General of India Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Star India argued that TRAI can’t regulate content and it has no additional jurisdiction over broadcasters, TRAI's counsel Venkatesh Dhond said that the amendments to the NTO 2.0 are well thought out modifications after extensive consultation with all stakeholders. Dhond also asserted that broadcasters cannot take undue advantage of their own action and seek interim relief.
The Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) on January 13, 2020, had filed a writ petition against the regulatory body seeking a stay on the implementation of the New Tariff Order.
On January 1, TRAI issued an amendment asking broadcasters to come up with a new price list of channels by January 15, 2020.
