Brands are warning up to the idea of this year's biggest extravaganza- IPL 2020. In a year marred by the COVID pandemic, IPL is seen as the big hope for brands to revive animal spirit of the economy. While Dream11 has bagged the title sponsorship, a host of popular brands are in the race to be the on-air sponsor for the Dubai edition of the premier league.
According to highly placed sources in the industry, Amazon, Phone Pe, Unacademy and TVS are all in advanced stages of negotiation with Star for on-air sponsorship deals. Sponsorship amounts are undisclosed at the moment.
Some of these players, like Unacademy, were also in the race for title sponsorship of the league. After a fortnight long speculation on who’d take away the title sponsorship deal, the Board of Control for Cricket in India awarded the rights to the fantasy cricket league platform. As per media reports, Dream11 bagged the deal for Rs 222 crore. The other bidders contesting for the spot included Biju’s, who is said to have made a bid of Rs201 crore while Unacademy quoted Rs170 crore.
Some of the popular sponsors from last season included the likes of MRF, Maruti Suzuki, Parle Products and Phone Pe.
An email query on the matter sent to Star India on Monday did not elicit any response.
