Zee TV bets big on epic villain ‘Ravan’
Whenever one has to cite an example of good versus evil it has always been the epic battle between Lord Ram and Ravan. Yet not many are aware of the background of the ruler of Lanka. Zee’s new series ‘Ravan’, which premiered on November 18, traces his journey from ‘Mahamanav’ to ‘Mahadanav’.
The numbers game is working well for Zee TV with its primetime shows rating as high as 6 plus and 5 plus TVRs for the mass TG on week days. The combination with formats has made it the clear No. 2 channel with all indications that another good show can further reduce its gap with the leader. Helping Zee TV move closer to this objective is one of its most expensive shows, ‘Ravan’, in the Saturday, 9.00 pm slot.
The show premiered on November 18, 2006 and is set to see significant push from the channel in days to come. The media concentration continues to be on outdoors and on-air promos.
Speaking on the show, Punit Goenka, Business Head, Zee TV, said, “‘Ravan’ is the latest addition to our diverse programming consisting of dramas, comedies, reality shows and movies. This show reveals the lesser-known facts about the life of Ravan and his journey from ‘Mahamanav’ to ‘Mahadanav’. The script of this mythological drama has been written with authentic references and research. With ‘Ravan’, Zee TV presents viewers with a mythological show that is different from the present generation of serials.”
Channel officials informed that in the last six months, Zee TV had spent as much as Rs 1 crore on the sets alone. A few sets have been created in a studio at Umar Gaon like the Darbar and puja areas. The show has been produced by Film and Shots Productions, while the sets have been designed by Varsha Jain.
The show has been written and researched by Chandan Singh, while Ranjan Singh is the director. The cast of the show include Narendra Jha in the title role of Ravan, Mansi Salve, Ravee Gupta, Rajendra Gupta, Deepraz Rana, Diwakar Pundir and Ujjwal Rana, among others.
