Best ads of the fortnight: Kartik Aaryan & McDowell's silent ode, Tata Play's TV tribute
Our pick of the best ads between November 15 and 30 by BlinkX,, Tata Play, Sharekhan, McDowell's and Joy Personal Care
When you are in the business of ads, you know that a sure-shot way to the viewer’s mind is often through the heart. Ads that evoke powerful emotions are often remembered for a long time. Between November 15 and 30, we were treated to some beautiful commercials that tugged right at our heartstrings and stoked our emotions. We also liked some that leveraged humour and offered a slice-of-life look into the lives of Indians. From BlinkX to Tata Play, here's our pick of the best ads of the fortnight.
BlinkX
Indians do many things exceptionally well, and one of those things is understanding the pulse of the market. The client-tech company launched a series of digital brand campaigns, #MadeForTheMarket, aimed at highlighting the significance of a trusted tech partner throughout the investing journey for Indian investors. The ads spotlight qualities essential for trading such as research, precision and patience that are inherent in Indians. The three-film campaign showcases everyday instances where these qualities come to the fore.
Joy Personal Care
Sushant Divgikar is one of the biggest names and the most recognisable faces of the Indian LGBTQ community. The activist, model and performer was roped in as the brand ambassador of Joy Personal Care's flagship winter product Honey & Almond Body Lotion. The digital video commercial has Divgikar talking about going beyond the boundaries of gender when it comes to skincare. The Joy Personal Care ad reiterates the fact that "beauty is for everyone."
McDowell’s
Kartik Aaryan is best remembered for his iconic and impassioned monologue from his debut movie Pyaar ka Punchnama. The actor tipped his hat to the original scene by re-enacting it for his hearing-impaired friend in sign language in the latest campaign film for House of McDowell’s Glassware. Through the re-enactment, Aaryan ensures that his friend also feels special and included in the celebration. The ad was conceptualised by DDB Mudra.
Sharekhan
Another insightful campaign this fortnight was Sharekhan's #TohMarketMeinMatAa, the brand's sound warning to inexperienced investors who have a rather frivolous approach to trading and investing. Created by Fatmen Ideas and developed by ZigZag Films, the ad features the tigrine mascot who presents a song-dance routine to stock market entrants, asking them to ditch their casual approach and adopt a more informed and disciplined perspective.
Tata Play
The old weather-beaten TV in the Indian households has seen us through thick and thin. It has witnessed us weep over saas-bahu serials and celebrate when our favourite team wins the IPL. When one trades in a new smart TV for the old telly, one can get a bit wistful. Tata Play's #HarTVJingalala digital campaign pays homage to this enduring role of the good old TV in bringing happiness and fostering togetherness to families across generations. The campaign was conceptualized and developed by Chimp&Z Inc. and it showcases how Tata Play’s connection keeps entertainment a constant fixture in people’s lives.
