The second round of winners announced at the Festival of Media Awards 2009 had some good news for India. There were five Indian entries shortlisted and Madison Media’s entry, titled ‘Condom’, which was a campaign for BBC World Service Trust, has won in the Best Communications Strategy category.

After a nearly four-year stint with Clear Channel, a global player in out-of-home advertising, Sudhakar Sharan has now joined entertainment company TIC Integrated Marketing Services as General Manager - Retail and Exhibitions. Sharan will be reporting to Gaurav Dhall, Managing Director, TIC. Sharan was Head of Sales (North) at Clear Channel.

TAM Media Research has released the numbers for the two matches played on the first day of IPL 2 for the six metros. For the C&S 4+, the Mumbai Indian Vs Chennai Super King match rated 5.55, while the Royal Challengers Vs Rajasthan Royals scored a 5.48. The opening match last year delivered over 8 TRPs. A closer look shows that the digital households have delivered better ratings that the analog. Also, the AdEx analysis shows that Vodafone and Airtel led the brands dominating the commercial breaks.

The Festival of Media organisers announced the winners of only 10 categories of the Festival of Media Awards (FMAs) 2009 on the opening night. Amongst the 10 categories announced, India had a shortlist in only one category, while no Indian work bagged any award in the categories announced on April 19, 2009. However, it is believed that Indian agencies do have something to cheer for about in the next couple of days.

Some of the most renowned global names in the media agency business kicked off the Festival of Media 2009. The Festival has shifted destination to Spain, and even though the number of delegates has come down to around 600 this year, from the 850 last year, Charlie Crowe, CEO, C Squared, the organisers of the Festival, said that the turnout was “positive” and that the Festival had evidently grown in stature in the three years.
