Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR, dubbed as the ‘Smart Car’, now has a mascot – Mr WizeR. The name is derived from brand ‘WagonR’ and some of the inherent attributes of the WagonR owner – wise, smart and witty.
Shashank Srivastava, Chief General Manager (Marketing), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, explained, “The objective of launching Mr WizerR is to revitalise the brand and beat the clutter with an innovative concept, while communicating the core strength of the brand in the most effective manner. Mr WizeR embodies the values – smartness and leadership – that brand WagonR stands for. Thus, Mr WizeR truly represents WagonR customers.”
Mr WizeR made its debut on July 17, 2009 in a cartoon strip in a leading national daily. WagonR aims to take Mr WizeR to all media domains and plans to have the cartoon character as the face of future campaigns across print, TV and the Internet, progressively. Mr WizeR will be seen providing solutions to everyday issues faced by the common man, flavoured with his characteristic wit.
The WagonR, the tall boy hatchback in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio, is popular for its practicality and easy manoeuverability. Mr WizeR will reflect this and will be shown in both office and everyday situations. According to VS Mani, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Lintas Media Group, who worked on creating the Mr WizeR character, “WagonR will be an integral part of the storyline and the brand fit will be merged with the story. Though Mr WizeR has a modern outlook, he is deeply rooted in the Indian value system.”
