Railways objects to BMC’s OOH draft policy, says it shouldn't be under its ambit
BMC’s draft policy refers to Railways at many places
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has received 38 objections and suggestions over the draft Out-of-Home (OOH) advertising policy till Monday. Railways' objection to the policy is one of them.
“Railways has asserted, in a letter, that being part of the Union government, they’re out of the ambit of the said policy drafted by the civic body,” a senior BMC official told e4m.
The references of Railways are there at many places in the draft policy. One such reference is in the clause with regards to advertisements during the implementation of election code of conduct which stipulates that ads, including flags, banners, and hoardings, are strictly regulated and generally prohibited on “public properties.”
To explain what constitutes public properties, the draft policy mentions Railway Authority along with Collector, MHADA, PWD, MSRDC, Airport Authority and BEST, a move which prompted Railways to raise objections over the proposed policy.
It was not immediately clear whether BMC would rectify the clause in the final policy.
outMumbai has over 2,500 permitted billboards, including Railways and other sites. Of these, nearly 1,025 billboards are under the BMC jurisdiction. Railways have almost similar number of boards.
