Yahoo! India, the official online partner for Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week, currently on at the National Capital, and Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) showcased the ‘Yahoo India New Gen Show’ at the fashion event. This show provided a platform for five young designers to showcase their collection.
Commenting on the tie-up, Gopal Krishna, Vice-President & Head of Audience Emerging Markets, Yahoo!, said, “It’s the fourth season of our association with the FDCI and the Wills Lifestyle and India Fashion Week (WIFW) and we will continue to bring the best fashion and lifestyle content to the Indian consumers. The reason for our tie-up is that we believe in catering to the passion of people and our motive is to create content that all our users are passionate about. So, we intend to give all that our users want; if they want fashion, we provide them fashion. So, it’s a great opportunity to explore fashion and bring it closer to our users. As far as advertisers are concerned, we provide them different advertising platforms all the time.”
Krishna further said that they had created a microsite, willslifestylefashionweek.com, where Internet users could explore more about fashion. “The designers will not only showcase their collections but also interact with users through a consumer promotion on Yahoo India Answers. Each designer will post one question on the site and the best answers will receive an outfit created by the designers themselves,” he added.
So, is fashion going digital? “Absolutely! As we all know, fashion has a prominent place in the life of the youth of India, about 78 per cent of youth in the 19-35 age group log on to the Internet. The Internet is a great platform to bring together fashion and youth. Besides, every industry needs to target its specific audience, and since the audience is broadening, you need to reach out to the consumers through every medium,” Krishna explained.
He added that there had been tremendous growth in the fashion and the lifestyle channels, and believed that the next evolution would be digital.
Sharing his thoughts regarding the show, Sunil Sethi, President, FDCI, said, “I believe that FDCI is a great platform for nurturing the talent of upcoming designers, I applaud Yahoo’s initiative to support this emerging talent and provide these young designers with a launch pad to develop media profile.”
