MagnaGlobal, the strategic global media unit of Interpublic Group, has released a study on the media landscape in India. According to the report, India is the 13th advertising market with approximately $7 billion. However, the study forecasts India to become the sixth ad market by 2017.
Advertising per capita is extremely low in India, at approximately $6 per year, compared to $24 in China, $91 in Brazil and $250-500 in the Western markets. The MagnaGobal study sees an enormous potential waiting to be unleashed.
TV and print continue to be the growth drivers, contributing two-thirds of all revenues. A third of these are coming from the top 10 media conglomerates.
At $2.9 billion, TV ad revenues grew by 15 per cent in 2011. Supply and demand is growing. An average 208 30-sec spots were aired per day across India’s 327 channels. A plethora of inventory is keeping low CPTs.
