It is no secret that Facebook has repeatedly attempted to make user experience better. In recent news, Facebook’s official blog announced a few updates to its designs over the next few weeks, all of this in a bid to make News Feed more conversational and easier to read and navigate.

The changes will not affect the page’s reach or referral traffic, said the blog.

Facebook looks to bring a more lively and expressive conversational experience with ‘comments’ having become one of the major ways to communicate with other people over certain posts or topics.

By improving readability, Facebook aims to bring about a fresher look and feel for the News Feed. It has made the following changes:

  • Increased colour contrast so that typography is more legible

  • Larger link previews so everything is easier to read

  • Updated icons and Like, Comment and Share buttons that are larger and easier to tap

  • Circular profile pictures to show who’s posting or commenting

For easier navigation, the following changes were made:

  • See where a link will take you before clicking on it

  • See whose post you’re commenting on, reacting to or reading while you’re in the post

  • Return to News Feed once you’ve finished reading via a more prominent back button

Over the last two months, Facebook has brought about various features like “Watch” (a platform to watch shows on Facebook). Another update to News Feed that Facebook is working on will show people more stories that will load quickly on mobile and fewer stories that might take longer to load, so they can spend more time reading the stories they find relevant.

In June, Facebook had announced a feature in India to give users more control over their profile pictures. The company added new features—like animated reactions, filters, masks and effects, and the ability to take screenshots—available for one-on-one and group video chats. Based on reactions Facebook receives from India, they plan to incorporate it in other places.
