Microsoft-owned professional networking platform LinkedIn will now follow in the footsteps of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp by launching 'Stories' feature. The function will enable users to share images and short videos of their everyday moments from work. Sticking to the 'stories' format, these snapshots will be visible on the user's profile for 24 hours.

In its blog, LinkedIn commented on the feature: " Sharing Stories is an easy way to share your experiences and insights, and to build meaningful relationships with your professional community. LinkedIn shares Stories that you post for 24 hours."

LinkedIn said in its official release: "In an increasingly digital working world, LinkedIn Stories are the virtual water coolers where members can share their personality and everyday professional moments with their community."

With the growing importance of a virtually connected world, LinkedIn has launched Stories in India to help members share everyday, casual updates and experiences from their professional lives, start lightweight conversations and offer a new way to stay connected with their network. Members can share their everyday professional moments such as work-from-home setups, daily routines, work motivations, events, team calls, industry news, and insights quickly and with ease as it does not stay on a member’s permanent profile.

”In a virtually connected world, ‘Stories’ are the virtual water coolers, where members can share their everyday professional moments in a creative and authentic way, and find a new way to stay connected with their networks. Along with the launch of Stories, we have also introduced a host of platform enhancements that offer an inclusive and enjoyable LinkedIn experience. The new look and feel of LinkedIn showcases our commitment to creating an engaging, supportive, diverse, and respectful community, which is at the heart of everything we do at LinkedIn,” says Ashutosh Gupta, India Country Manager, LinkedIn.

"We’re never done meeting our members where their voices are. Last year, we started asking ourselves what Stories might look like in a professional context. Stories first appeared on Snapchat, with other platforms like Instagram and Facebook adopting them soon after. They spread for a good reason: they offer a lightweight, fun way to share an update without it having to be perfect or attached to your profile forever," wrote Pete Davies, LinkedIn's head of Consumer Products in a blog post in August.

Till recently, 'Stories' was in the testing phase, available to members and LinkedIn pages in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, the Netherlands, the UAE and the USA. Media reports say that the feature will go live today in India on October 6, 2020.

To access the feature, users need to download the most recent version of the LinkedIn app. 'Stories' will appear on the top section of the users' feed.
