Meta, Google colluded to put up ads targeting teens: Report
As per a report, the tech giants were targeting users aged between 13 and 17 in violation of Google's own guidelines
Meta and Google allegedly put up ads on Instagram to target teenagers on YouTube, a news report has said.
This violates Google's own guidelines, says the report.
The tech giants entered into a collaboration to display Insta ads to users aged between 13 and 17.
As per the report, the ads were part of a category "unknown" that is usually used to target those whose age, gender and other details are unknown.
Although the alleged targeting was done in Canada earlier this year, it was meant to be extended to other countries, the report said.
Both Meta and Google face multiple investigations by the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for potential anti-competitive practices. Google is under scrutiny for its dominance in search, Android, and Play Store policies, while Meta's social media market practices are being examined. These cases have significant implications for the digital ecosystem in India.
The two tech giants are also under intense scrutiny in other major markets as well. The US, EU, UK, and Australia have launched investigations into these tech giants' business practices, focusing on areas such as search dominance, advertising, app store policies, and data privacy. The outcomes of these global cases could influence regulatory actions in India.
