Google India unveils Brand Zeitgeist 2010; Nokia, Airtel, LIC top the charts

Google India released its first ‘Brand Zeitgeist’ at its Creative Sandbox event in Mumbai recently. Brand Zeitgeist highlights the most searched brands and the activities related to the brands on Google search in India.

Google India released its first ‘Brand Zeitgeist’ at its Creative Sandbox event in Mumbai recently. Brand Zeitgeist highlights the most searched brands and the activities related to the brands on Google search in India.

The Google Creative Sandbox was held to spark the imagination of agencies by creating for them a highly unique environment. It gave them an opportunity to experience the latest web technologies that are used by creative minds around the world, pushing new boundaries and delivering extraordinary results.

The study

Nokia emerged as the most searched online brand, followed by SBI, Samsung, Sony and BSNL, respectively. Google also shared the key trends across verticals like telecom, finance, travel, auto and education and its impact on online advertising in India.

The trends showed the telecom industry to be the fastest growing in terms of search and also that it added new categories rapidly. In the same category, mobile and VAS make up about 20 per cent of the queries, followed by DTH and broadband. Nokia has topped the most searched brand in the mobile phones segment, while Airtel was the biggest in the service provider category.

The study also predicts a huge rise in the search percentage for finance related searches. This particular genre of search has seen 73 per cent growth, out of which 33 per cent is only related to banking. LIC has taken the No. 1 position as the most searched brand in insurance, followed by ICICI Prudential and Bajaj Allianz. Net banking was noted to be the top activity.

Travel took the numero uno spot in the e-commerce category. The Indian Railways website is the most popular brand under this head as train bookings online have been maximum.

As per Google’s study, Maruti and Yamaha are the most searched automotive brands in the cars and bikes category, respectively, while education as a field proved to be largest in terms of search. Online searches related to education have witnessed a growth of over 45 per cent.
