Hindu comes up with initiative to increase green cover in and around Chennai
One sapling to be planted for every copy of Hindu dropped in boxes placed at malls
The Hindu has come out with its latest initiative to help increase the green cover in and around Chennai by reaching out to its readers.
A sapling will be planted for every copy of The Hindu newspaper dropped at boxes placed in shopping malls in the city.
This CSR initiative from the group has been received well and the responses have been overwhelming. Communitree, an NGO creating man-made forests, has partnered with the initiative. “This is an initiative to create a cleaner, greener, happier and fresher Chennai. The Hindu cares for the environment and we are glad to be on board. Nurturing the city that we live in is our responsibility. The saplings from the campaign will be added to South India’s largest man-made forest that we are currently working on,” said Hafiz from Communitree.
“As the city grows, we need to be more and more conscious of the environmental impact of this growth. We invite the readers of The Hindu to join hands and drop off as many copies as they’d like to contribute to this social movement,” said Dr Sathya Sriram, Head of Strategy & Marketing, The Hindu Group.
