Congratulations on your win at the e4m PR & Corp Comm Women Achievers Awards 2023. How do you feel?

Winning the e4m PR & Corp Comm Women Achievers Award in 2023 was an honour. It's incredibly validating to be recognized for my contributions to the field of public relations and corporate communications, especially among such talented and accomplished peers. Simultaneously, I am inspired to participate in a competition for an award that transcends gender distinctions and pits me against the cream of the field. I am really looking forward to that.

What inspires you on your journey and endeavours?

The pursuit of knowledge and continuous learning is an inspiration for me. I'm always curious to explore new ideas and gain new skills. Witnessing the achievements and resilience of others, especially those who have overcome significant challenges, serves as a reminder that anything is possible with dedication, perseverance, and passion. Their stories inspire me to keep pushing boundaries and never give up on my dreams.

In what ways have you witnessed the PR and corporate communications industry change and evolve over the years? What global practices would you see implemented in India?

The PR and corporate communications industry has undergone significant changes and evolution over the years, driven by advancements in technology, shifts in consumer behaviour, and changes in the media landscape. I would also like to add that Covid has also changed the landscape of PR!

While messaging has always been important, the art of storytelling has become central to grabbing attention and building connections with audiences in a noisy media environment, which I would like to term the post-COVID era!

With the rise of social media, platforms have completely disrupted the way organizations and individuals communicate. Today one needs to utilize digital tools for real-time communication, influencer partnerships, social media listening, and online reputation management. With the abundance of data available, PR and corporate communications have become more data-driven. Analytics tools help professionals measure the impact of their campaigns, track sentiment, and make data-driven decisions to optimize strategies.

Breaking down silos between PR, marketing, and investor relations to create a cohesive and consistent brand message across all channels is a global best practice that one needs to implement in India.

Tell us about your most valuable learning from the industry. Where do you foresee the PR and comms industry in the coming days?

One of the most important learnings for me has been to understand the art of storytelling. Effective communication is not just about conveying information but also about crafting compelling narratives that resonate with audiences on an emotional level. By harnessing the art of storytelling, I have learnt to capture attention, build connections, and drive engagement with my audience.

With the advent of AI larger roles in tasks like content creation, media monitoring, and sentiment analysis, will be taken care of which would free the professional for more strategic work. With the evolving Metaverse new opportunities and challenges for communication and engagement will require professionals to adapt and develop strategies for the emerging virtual space.

What would be your message to the future generation of professionals?

In today's rapidly evolving landscape, the ability to adapt and learn continuously is essential. Staying curious, seeking out new knowledge and skills, and never stopping to grow professionally and personally is a message that I would want to send out to the next generation of professionals.

Apart from this, I would recommend building storytelling muscles! In today's information overload, captivating audiences through compelling narratives is key. Honing one's storytelling skills to stand out in the noisy media environment and connecting with one's target audience is the key to a successful career ahead!
