Excerpts:

Congratulations on your win at the e4m PR & Corp Comm Women Achievers Awards 2023. How do you feel?

Achieving the e4m PR & Corp Comm Women Achievers Award 2023 is genuinely both an honor and a humbling experience for me. This accolade signifies more than just a personal milestone, it acknowledges the impactful work and campaigns that have characterized my career. With this comes a sense of responsibility & further motivation to persistently push boundaries and make meaningful contributions to the realms of PR and corporate communications. I am sincerely grateful for this acknowledgment and, with even greater enthusiasm, look forward to leveraging the power of PR in the future.

What inspires you on your journey and endeavours?

What truly inspires me is the opportunity to make a positive impact through my work, crafting compelling narratives that hold the power to shape how a brand is perceived. Moreover, I recognize the potential for my efforts to influence not just the brand's image, but also its stock price, which might be a bold statement to make but difficult to refute.

In what ways have you witnessed the PR and corporate communications industry change and evolve over the years? What global practices would you see implemented in India?

In the current landscape, Public Relations (PR) has evolved into a strategic business enabler that goes beyond disseminating information, transcending the role of a mere business messenger. Another significant shift worth noting is the move towards digital platforms and social media, now integral for sharing information and actively engaging with audiences, transitioning from a monologue to a dialogue. While the power of traditional media can’t be ignored, social media is here to stay. The industry has also become more data-driven, with analytics playing a crucial role in measuring campaign effectiveness and audience sentiment. The rise of influencer marketing is another trend, enabling brands to connect with audiences in a more relatable way.

Encouraging employees to be brand advocates is a widely adopted global practice. Organizations can leverage their workforce to amplify positive messages, fostering a strong and authentic brand image. Moreover, there is a growing emphasis on transparency and authenticity, with organizations adopting open, genuine, and honest communication practices. Implementing these global strategies, along with embracing digital innovation and leveraging data-driven insights, would undoubtedly enhance the effectiveness of PR and corporate communications strategies in the Indian context.

Tell us about your most valuable learning from the industry. Where do you foresee the PR and comms industry in the coming days?

One of my most valuable learnings from the industry has been the importance of staying agile and open to embracing new technologies. Looking ahead, I foresee the PR and communications industry continuing its digital transformation. PR Professionals will use artificial intelligence, data analytics, and emerging technologies to better understand audience behavior and improve communication strategies. Brands will also prioritize authentic storytelling and purpose-driven communication, meeting the increasing desire of audiences for meaningful connections.

In the future, organizations will commonly use collaborative communication strategies that connect different channels to tell a unified brand story. The PR and communications industry is heading toward a transformative phase, where being adaptable, tech-savvy, and dedicated to genuine communication will be crucial for success.

What would be your message to the future generation of professionals?

My message to the future generation of professionals would be to blend creativity with strategic thinking. Stay ahead of industry trends, embrace emerging technologies, and be ready to experiment with new ideas. Remember, effective communication is a powerful tool, so hone your storytelling skills and create narratives that resonate with your audience.
