Creating camaraderie creatively – Pallavi Goorha

While 2008 was a good year in terms of stories, there were some disappointments as well. We reporters put our hearts into every story that we do and keep relentlessly pursuing people when we are strong on a story scent. So, we are crestfallen when people back out at the nth minute.

Overall, 2008 was a good year for exchange4media and for me as well. I had a great time covering my beats comprising advertising, outdoor, radio and new media. Among all the stories that I did throughout the year, one report that I really enjoyed doing was the one on why advertising is unable to create icons like Lalitaji any more. I got to interact with none other than legendary ad guru Alyque Padamsee for this report, along with a bevy of renowned creative directors.

I also got to interview Prasoon Joshi and came away learning a lot from that one single interaction.

While 2008 was a good year in terms of stories, there were some disappointments as well. We reporters put our hearts into every story that we do and keep relentlessly pursuing people when we are strong on a story scent. So, we are crestfallen when people back out at the nth minute. One such news was about VGC Delhi being shut down. I missed out the important development because a key person backed out at the last minute.

Another pet grouse is that people in the industry whom we talk to sometimes don’t stick to deadlines and their promises. This lands us in a big soup as we are suddenly stranded with no report at all and all our efforts fall flat. Please people, cooperate with us. We value your time and efforts, please value ours’ too.

I look forward to doing more industry-specific feature reports in 2009, apart from my regular dose of breaking news reports.

Here’s to another year of building stronger bridges with the advertising and media industry.
