Finally! We know how Pops got his nickname
At KV Sridhar’s book launch event, Alyque Padamsee finally reveals the story behind Sridhar’s nickname, Pops
KV Sridhar (Pops), Founder & Chief Creative Officer, HyperCollective, pulled off the impossible on Wednesday evening. Nineteen top ad men from across India came together on one platform to celebrate the launch of Pops’ book titled ‘30 second thrillers’ and celebrate advertising itself.
From the doyens of advertising like Alyque Padamsee and Piyush Pandey to the current generation of the industry—Arun Iyer, Amit Sharma, Agnello Dias and Gauri Shinde—the who’s who of the industry shared behind-the-scenes anecdotes about the most iconic ads they each created.
Speaking about how he got into writing the book, Pops said that people who are not from an advertising background are very interested in how ads come to be. “They are dying to know the stories behind their favourite ads. So, I decided to cover that entire distance between the past and present of the industry and put it all together in a book.”
Pops interviewed 24 leading ad men and women over weekends for two years to put together this epic book. When asked about the biggest challenge he encountered while writing the book, Pops quipped, “finding the time to write the book.”
On this special occasion, Alyque Padamsee finally revealed to the gathering how Pops got his nickname. It was during the Lintas days when Padamsee and Sridhar worked together that the latter bagged this name. "We had a junior trainee named Sridhar and every time I would call for him I was told that he is chatting with Chaks (K S Chakravarthy).” But the Sridhar with Chaks was his terrible twin KV Sridhar, not the junior trainee. So, Padamsee decided that something had to be done about this. “Sridhar was leading a team of creative people, so I gave him the moniker Pops.”

The book covers behind-the-scenes stories of every loved ad, right from Lalitaji and Thanda Matlab Coca Cola to Daag Acche Hain and the Tanishq remarriage ad. The book has been published by Bloomsbury India. A part of the proceeds from the book sales will go to the NGO Ladli.
Josy Paul, Arun Iyer, R Balki, Ram Madhav, Prasoon Joshi, Shantanu Sheorey, KS Chakravarthy, Prakash Varma, Kartik Iyer, Nitesh Tiwari, Amit Sharma, Parashu Narayanan, and Ashish Khazanchi were the other ad men present at the book launch.
