FM Radio bidding ends: Anilbhai Ka Sapna: Sab sheher mein apna!

Pradyuman Maheshwari, Editor of Pune-based Maharashtra Herald, has put in his papers. This veteran journalist is all set to join DNA next week as Senior Editor and will also be on the paper’s Editorial Board. He replaces B. V. Rao who quit last month, and will head DNA’s front page and City coverage. Maheshwari had done a longish stint with Mid-Day in the nineties. He left Mid-Day in 2000. He subsequently started Mediaah!, a blog hosted on blogspot.com, which went on to become a source of media gossip. Forced to shut down Mediaah! for lack of revenues, he joined Maharashtra Herald in 2004. The newspaper was revamped under his supervision, but Maheshwari believes that “it is time I took up a new task”.

Dharmesh Vats, who was GM, Marketing, at Gujarat Samachar, has joined Financial Technologies as VP, Corporate Communications. He was with Gujarat Samachar for six years. He has spent 18 years in the media domain and has worked with Yellow Pages, Express Publications, Dalal Street Journal and Manas Times. Financial Technologies (India) Ltd. (FTIL) is India's leading vertical specialist enterprise delivering mission-critical, Straight Through Processing (STP) solutions. Vats will be largely working on Multi-Commodity Exchange of India (MCX).
Anupama Chopra
Anupama Chopra, who quit Rediffusion PR last month, has joined joined EMAAR MGF Land Pvt. Ltd. as Head-Corporate Communications. Emaar MGF Land is a joint venture formed by MGF Developments Ltd and Emaar Properties PJSC, Dubai (promoted by the Government of Dubai) -- the world’s largest listed real estate company. The JV has brought in the largest FDI in real estate in India, amounting to over half a billion dollars for projects with a capital outlay of $4 billion (Rs 18,000 crore). Chopra joined Rediff PR in 1995 as Senior Account Executive, moving from Mudra PR. She was elevated to Associate VP in January 2004, and took over as VP in June 2005.
FMCG growth slows down in December
The FMCG sector hit a barrier in December '05 with growth falling to 3.5% compared to 4.4% in the previous month. According to a Morgan Stanley report, the slowdown in December '05 was partly on account of the high base reported in December '04, which was the only month in three years that witnessed double-digit sector growth.

Three years ago, Reuters commenced a `direct to consumer' business segment, which would take it into formats capable of greater growth rates. Its initiatives in television and broadband fell in this space.

FM Phase II expansion: South India sees aggressive bidding by local players
The bidding process for the Phase II expansion of FM Radio concluded on February 3, 2006 on a high note with some aggressive bidding for South India, mostly by local players. Sun-promoted Kal Radio again bid aggressively, bagging 15 of the 19 frequencies up for bid. Adlabs bid more cautiously, winning eight frequencies.
