Apps have become our window to the world, be they messaging apps, Over-the-top video streaming apps, or digital payment apps that made life easier after demonetisation. The market for in-app advertising is growing with more and more apps becoming indispensable. According to Chartboost, the mobile gaming audience platform, mobile ad spend accounted for over half of overall digital ad revenue in 2016 in the US. Digital video advertising is the biggest contributor to the digital advertising pie. Video ads now account for more than 35 % of all ad spends online.
Most of this revenue goes into the most popular apps on the app store, including Whatsapp, YouTube, Hotstar, Amazon, etc.

Here is a list of top 10 utility and social apps:

WhatsApp Messenger
Over 1 billion people use WhatsApp every day to stay connected. In a new blogpost, Whatsapp said that it is testing new features that will make it easier for people to communicate with the businesses they want to reach on WhatsApp. “We're building and testing new tools via a free WhatsApp Business app for small companies and an enterprise solution for bigger companies operating at a large scale with a global base of customers, like airlines, e-commerce sites, and banks. These businesses will be able to use our solutions to provide customers with useful notifications like flight times, delivery confirmations, and other updates,” the blogpost noted.
