Santhanam’s journey into marketing has taken an unconventional path, through automobile, finance, power and telecom. An engineer and an MBA from IIM Kolkata, Santhanam has worked across industries and geographies covering Strategy, M&A, Operational & Functional leadership roles.
In 1995, straight out of B-school and motivated by a keen interest in finance, he joined ICICI Bank, practising project finance for three-and-a-half years. He then joined UK-based energy company PowerGen, and looked after investment analysis based in its India office. After spending three years there, Santhanam decided to move on to a sector that was growing rapidly – telecom.
He joined Reliance Communications in 2002 where he was instrumental in setting up the Corporate Mobility, Public Access and Enterprise Businesses, before moving on to head the Public Access Business as its National Head. In 2009 he moved on to the mobility side as Head of Maharashtra.
Santhanam moved to Vodafone in 2010 as its COO for Uttar Pradesh to handle a vastly rural area. In 2013, he moved back to Mumbai to spearhead the newly created business vertical of Data, Devices, Content & Innovation. He was accountable for the growing Data business and feels privileged to have contributed to the current data led revolution that is happening in the country.
In 2017, Santhanam joined HDFC Bank as Chief Marketing Officer. He is now tasked with furthering the bank's brand metrics and digitising the entire customer experience.
A passionate football fan, Santhanam is married with two teenage children, who he believes are his primary teachers on all things digital and the digital experience.
