Star India’s OTT platform Hotstar garnered 42 million users and managed a concurrency rate of 4 million at a particular interval of time, this is according to a two page advertisement carried by Hotstar in the Economic Times.

With this edition bringing more than 2 times the users than the previous year and 2017’s concurrency rate recorded at 1.8 million, there is no doubt that Hotstar has managed tremendous growth in terms of their audience reach.

This happened after Star India put IPL behind the paywall on its OTT for the very first time. Hotstar has roped in six sponsors for IPL live streaming including, Vivo, Jio, Dream11, Coca-Cola, Royal Challenge and fbb.

Star India — the official broadcaster of the Vivo IPL for the next five years — is relying on technology like VR to drive viewership, as well as engagement, on Hotstar.
