What a week for ad watchers! From controversies to doozies, we had it all, and brands got our full attention with their clever execution and some fancy footwork.

From boAt pulling a fast one on rivals to Bold Care stunning viewers again with the Ranveer Singh-Johnny Sins combo, we had a medley of interesting commercials this week that stood out from the rest.

In our weekly series of best ads, we spotlight boAt, Bold Care Colgate Active Salt, St Jude India, Onida, and McDonald's during the first week of April.

boAt
Audio tech company boAt launched its ad campaign as a David taking on the Goliath that is Apple. Written by Tanmay Bhat, Devaiah Bopanna and team, the ad took audacious potshots at the rabid "fanboy" culture of Apple Airpods, urging users to rethink their mindless devotion towards the brand. boAt was largely trolled for punching above its weight and pitting itself against a global giant like Apple, but also got lauded for its gumption to take on the biggest name in the industry.

Bold Care

Given the success of Bold Care's first ad starring Ranveer Singh and adult movie actor Johnny Sins, the sexual wellness company went for an encore by bringing back the Singh-Sins duo and spoofing Indian TV show formats. The new ad parodies old teleshopping ads with Singh playing host and Sins the expert. Needless to say, the ad is hilariously good. The ad is the brainchild of the team led by Tanmay Bhat and Devaiah Bopanna.

Colgate Active Salt
As poll season arrives, Colgate Active Salt reminded the country of the only kursi that matters -- the dentist's chair. The brand dished out an ad underscoring the importance of oral health, playing upon most people's fear of visiting the dentist. The ad has been conceptualised by WPP@CP, the integrated global WPP team dedicated to serving Colgate-Palmolive worldwide.

McDonald's

McDonald's finally embraced its WcDonald's identity and served an anime-style ad film this week, much to our delight and that of its Genz consumers. For the uninitiated, WcDonald's is how McDonald's is represented in the anime world, to prevent copyright issues.

Onida

The electronics brand addressed the rising mercury levels in its ad for the Onida Ac range. A cameo from the elusive Onida Devil made the ad truly memorable.

St Jude

Many underprivileged families are forced to abandon their children's cancer treatment even at charitable hospitals due to the unbearable cost of rents in cities. Instead of guilt-tripping the audience to drive them to make donations, the film by Ogilvy for St Jude ChildCare offers a hitherto unseen dilemma faced by medical officers while selecting who does and doesn't get free accommodation for cancer treatment.
