The name Gunda may not ring a bell for many Genz moviegoers of the country. Yet, the connoisseurs of fine Indian cinema may know about this 1998 cinematic masterpiece by Kanti Shah that gave us zany characters like Bulla, Chuttiya and Lambu Aata, immortalised by actors like Mukesh Rishi, Shakti Kapoor and Ishrat Ali. Gunda has attained a cult-like status today largely due to the film’s “it’s-so-bad-it’s-good” appeal.
Outlandish double-entendre dialogues, over-the-top stunts, cartoonish villains and a maudlin good-vs-evil storyline helped Gunda transcend barriers of time and taste.
Rishi’s rendition of the fearsome and loathsome Bulla has been memorable for many reasons, one of them being his opening monologue, “Mera naam hain Bulla. Rakhta hoon main khulla.” (My name is Bulla. I keep it open.) The dialogue, of course, is open to interpretation.
With some interesting iterations to the original dialogues, Bulla lists all the product features from design to battery life to audio clarity: “Lambu ne battery ko lamba kar diya. Machis ki teeli se khamba kar diya.”
Despite being active last in 1998, Bulla also seems quite familiar with GenZ lingo such as “slaps,” “pookie,” and “alpha.”
The ad has been conceptualised in-house by boAt's marketing team.
