Samsung India has appointed Ranjit Singh Yadav as Director for its IT Business Division. Yadav brings with him 22 years of experience, having worked with Hewlett Packard (HP) Asia Pacific as Director APJ (Asia Pacific Japan). He has handled a number of key assignments such as Regional Partner Management and SEA Channel Head, based out of Singapore. In his last assignment, Yadav was responsible for APJ Enterprise Service & Storage business for Asia Pacific & Japan. Prior to joining HP Asia Pacific, he had worked with Philips Electronics, Asia Pacific since 1998, where he was Marketing Director – Televisions for Asia Pacific and MEA. He has also worked with companies like Hindustan Unilever and Computer Point India earlier on in his career.

M Swaminathan

M Swaminathan has joined Times Internet Ltd as Audience Head and Brand Manager of Indiatimes. He will be reporting to Sunil Rajshekhar and will work closely with Business Heads of teams across the Indiatimes channels for developing and executing the brand strategies and plans for growth in online properties. In his last assignment, Swaminathan was Director - Communication and Community Products at Yahoo India, where he had led various product teams. Previously, he had worked with ESPN-STAR Sports as Head of Multimedia Ventures, where he had launched 'Super Selector', the first fantasy game in Asia, and other products that created synergies with television. He brings on board rich experience in Internet consumer behaviour, marketing, product management and business development skills.

IRS 2008 R2: English magazines witness a decline

English magazines have registered a decline in readership as per the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) 2008 Round 2 data. However, there are few genres among English magazines such as women’s, general interest and travel-based magazines, where at least one or two players have seen an increase in average issue readership (AIR).

FWICE-producer row: Channels instruct programming teams to run repeats from Nov 10

In the absence of any resolution or feedback from the producers on the dispute between the producers and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), Hindi GECs have instructed their respective programming teams to be geared for all repeat programming beginning November 10. The only channel that would see an exception in this is Colors for its show ‘Bigg Boss’. At the same time, 9X’s directive to its programming team to stop shooting completely is seen in a different light.

IRS 2008 R2: No change in AIR's language-wise leaders; some languages see magazines score & dailies lose

Much like it has been with any other aspect of the Indian Readership Survey (IRS) 2008 R2 findings, the language wise leadership trends on the average issue readership (AIR) numbers, too, do not throw any surprises. Indian language publications that have reigned as the leaders in their respective segments continue to hold on to their numbers. A significant number of publications have dropped in AIR.
