Brands hop on the #Oscars2020 bandwagon

The world witnessed historic wins at the 92nd Academy Awards. After Joaquin Phoenix took home the Oscar for the best actor, it was the Korean film Parasite's win that created a lot of chatter online. The South Korean dark comedy became the first non-English film to win an Oscar for best picture.  On this historic occasion, while cinema enthusiasts took to Twitter to share their excitement over the wins, brands also capitalised on the trends to participate in the Oscars commentary with some moment marketing. 

Movie fans tweeted about their favourite movie stars and moments from the Oscars, including Joaquin Phoenix's acceptance speech, Eminem’s surprise performance and Parasite director, Bong Joon-ho’s big win. Parasite has become the first South Korean film and first non-English language to win the best picture. Brands too slid in the discussion with topical brand posts to cash this historic victory. Twitter India also conducted two polls to interact with audiences in India and gather their take on the Oscars. While 50% of the respondents couldn’t get enough of the Oscars, the other half couldn’t care less. Twitter India also asked people which Indian must-match would they want to nominate for the Oscars. While the polls are yet to close, for now, Baahubali seems to be India’s top choice for the Oscars nominations list.
